Looking Back at the 4th AVCA Sustainable Investing in Africa Summit

On October 16 in London, the 4th AVCA Sustainable Investing in Africa Summit took place, a key gathering to discuss the role of private capital in sustainable development across the continent. Under the theme “The Capital Imperative: Turning Intent into Action”, this edition highlighted the importance of transforming ambitions into tangible results, fostering dialogue, collaboration, and the pursuit of forward-looking solutions.

Our Managing Partner, Marc Lasserre, represented S.O. Capital Advice alongside leading private capital actors committed to the continent. During his intervention, he emphasized the significant evolution of investment policies in Africa, citing funds already active in responsible sectors such as waste collection and recycling. He also stressed the strategic value of a dedicated responsible investment fund, capable of further enhancing positive impact across the continent.

Marc also highlighted the urgent need for additional capital, particularly to develop key infrastructure in sectors such as telecommunications, hospitality, healthcare, and roads. He addressed a major challenge as well: the lack of distribution and limited appetite for private assets, which constrains investment in Africa. This situation is expected to evolve, reducing the return gap between developed markets and Africa, and paving the way for growth in sustainable investing and emerging markets.

We remain convinced that the future of sustainable investing in Africa is promising, with the continent offering increasing opportunities to generate measurable and lasting positive impact, while supporting its economic and social development.
